Technology News: The giant technology Amazon is planning to fire 10,000 people in the upcoming few days. After Twitter and Facebook reduced their workforce, Amazon is going to do the same. As per the reports received, Amazon will cut almost 10,000 workforces in corporate and technology jobs starting as soon as this week.
Furthermore, the reports said, these 10,000 people represent roughly 3% of Amazon’s employees and less than 1% of its global workforce of more than 1.5 million including hourly workers. This employment reduction will focus on mainly Amazon’s devices organization, including the voice assistant Alexa as well as its retail division and Human resources.
The reports said, the layoffs at Amazon also come on the day its founder Jeff Bezos told CNN that he is planning to give away the majority of his 4124 billion net worth to charity within his lifetime. From April to September month, the tech giant reduced its employees by approximately 80,000 people. Even Amazon stopped the hiring process for many smaller teams.
According to the reports of the New York Times, after the Covid 19, pandemic years which saw exponential growth in online consumer spending, Amazon’s growth slowed down to the lowest rate in two decades. Even Amazon has shut down several of its initiatives, including Amazon Care, which provided primary and urgent health care after it failed to find enough customers, and Scout, the cooler-size home delivery robot, that employed 400 people, and Fabric.com, a subsidiary that was selling sewing supplies for three decades. For Amazon, Devices and Alexa have long been seen internally as at risk for a reduction in employees.
From 2017 to 2018, Amazon doubled its staff for Alexa and Echo devices to 10,000 engineers. At the same time if any engineer getting a job offer for Amazon roles was supposed to also get an offer from Alexa.
